Brandi Carlile speaks to me. Well, technically she sings to me <-- listen in while you read, should your ears need some lovin'. You've had that happen with music, right? You hear someone perform and after you're just not the same? I've got a handful of go-to artists who give me "the feels" and Brandi is one of them. Oh, and shout out to 'the Twins' who are NOT to be forgotten ;)
This past year, my mom and I were lucky to see Brandi and the Twins perform live at an intimate performance at Babeville (aka Asbury Hall) in Buffalo, NY. What I've really come to love is that Brandi uses her voice to spread awareness and raise funds for causes that speak to her and our performance was no exception. Currently, Brandi, the Hanseroth Twins, and the team at the Looking Out Foundation are practicing what they preach by releasing an all-star charity tribute album with some of the music industry's top names covering songs from Carlile's 2007 album The Story. The project is dubbed Cover Stories with 100% of proceeds to benefit War Child UK. While performing in Buffalo in 2016, our audience had a sneak peak into this upcoming project and we shared Brandi's hope that top artists would get on board in support of War Child. I'm so happy to see that it's all happening with an album release set for May 5, 2017!
War Child is an international charity that works with children affected by war in Afghanistan, Iraq, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, and Syria.
"This is a David and Goliath story," Carlile said. "Since becoming a mother, the reality of a child's beautiful life being torn apart by war felt like too big of a problem for me. So I asked my heroes and friends to help me launch a rock at the giant that is our refugee crisis and help in the only way we know how: through the power of music."
For Cover Stories, artists including Dolly Parton, Adele, Pearl Jam, Margo Price, and more are making an appearance with 14 tracks and 14 artists in total. Check out the full track list, via Rolling Stone:
